A school girl, who has a travel ban imposed on her by her father out of a pending divorce case with her mother, was able to join a field trip with her classmates abroad after the head of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) interceded, stressing that children should not be made to suffer disputes between their parents.
Maj. Gen. Mohammad Al Merri, GDRFA director-general in Dubai saw the young girl with her mother crying during his inspection visit at Dubai International Airport.
Maj. Gen. Al Merri approached the unnamed girl and her mother who were inside the passport control room and it was discovered that the girl was placed under travel ban by no less than her father, media reports said.
The travel ban stemmed from an ongoing divorce case and family dispute, the GDRFA-Dubai head learned.
Maj. Gen. Al Merri then called the girl’s father to convinced him to allow his daughter to join the school trip abroad.
The official said that at first the father refused but later on agreed.
After what happened, Maj. Gen. Al Merri called
on to parents who have a dispute with their ex-partners not to put their children between them and not to make them suffer.
