There are at least 136 new cases of HIV/AIDS recorded in Bulacan from January to March 2019, according to data from the Department of Health’s Epidemiology Bureau.
DOH noted that Bulacan had the highest number of HIV-AIDS cases recorded in Central Luzon this year.
The age of most of the new cases in Bulacan is from 15 years old and above.
Local health officials said the spike in HIV-AIDS cases can be attributed to the rise in the number of patients who visit HIV testing facilities and treatment hubs.
HIV causes AIDS or the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, which destroys the body’s immune system that the body can no longer fight off infections.
