New Kapuso actor Derek Ramsay has proven that true love comes when you least expect it.
In an interview with GMA News Online, Ramsay revealed that he meet his current girlfriend Joanna Villablanca during a time when he had almost given up on relationships.
It all started when his friends invited him to go out and they met unexpectedly in a bar.
“I’d given up on relationships and I was focusing on my career, and one day my friends came on and said ‘Derek come on man let’s go out.’ I’m like ‘I don’t go out, I’m over that’ and they are like ‘come on, be one with the boys.’ So I was like ‘alright let’s go,'” Ramsay shared.
He said that he got to talk to a lot of girls back then but no one caught his attention until he decided to leave the bar and met Villablanca by the elevator.
“I was leaving a bar that we’re in — and it was one of these bars up in some building I think like on the 30th floor or something — and she was waiting by the elevator. And I was waiting by the elevator and when my elevator opened, I went in and we kind of looked at each other. I told my friends, ‘guys, if you’re trying to hook me up, you should’ve hooked me up with her.’ And then doors closed thinking I’ll never see her again,” Ramsay said.
However, Ramsay though wrong as they were able to meet again for a second time around.
Two days after they went to the bar, a friend of Derek showed him a photo of a girl he wanted to introduce to the actor.
But it wasn’t the girl in the photo that he felt attracted to, but to Villablanca who was standing at the background of the photo.
“She was standing behind the girl that my friend was showing me. Sabi niya ‘type mo yan?’ Sabi ko ‘no. ‘Yong girl sa likod na-meet ko siya — well I didn’t meet her but nagkatinginan kami.’ So we did a little investigative work, we found out who she was and we got to meet and we got along and the rest is history,” he said.
Ramsay did not expect that the woman he met by the elevator and the one at the background of the photo would turn to be the love of his life as they have been together for five years now.
Ramsay said that one of the things he likes about Villablanca is that she is “somebody who’s more mature and being a mom makes you very responsible and I like that.”
A few years after they decided to make their relationship official, Ramsay and Villablanca agreed to move in together.
When they moved in together, Ramsay was also able to spend some time with Villablanca’s daughter Sofia who he loves like his own.
“Para kaming nagbabahay-bahayan na. It’s like we have a family, her daughter is in the house every other week so one week with her, one week with the father, and I love her like my own. Actually, she’s my stress reliever. Sometimes when I come home and I see her there, I’m happy that she’s there, sometimes ako pa yung naghahanap sa kanya,” he said.
