Random police checks are back

With the amnesty program over, UAE residents can expect the return of random police checks at major metro stations and roads as part of efforts to crack down on overstayers.

These measures, according to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA), are necessary to ensure order.

This was gathered even as a lawyer known for his advocacies for the cause of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) said amnesty applicants who have been granted six-month jobseeker visas need to exit before their papers expire.

“Those who availed of the jobseeker visa should keep in mind that there are attached conditions to it that they should follow. Otherwise, they will lose the benefit of the amnesty,” said Atty. Barney Almazar.

He explained that one of the conditions is to exit the country upon the expiry of their extended visa.

“If they fail to find a company to sponsor their employment visa, they should leave the country and come back on a valid visa,” Almazar said.

He added, “There will be no ban as long as they comply with the immigration rules. If they fail to find a company to sponsor their employment visa, they should leave the country before the expiry of the job seeker visa and come back on a new visa.”
