Abu Dhabi motorists’ licenses could soon be cleared of black points that were accumulated through involvement in minor traffic violations.
As part of an initiative called Year of Giving, Abu Dhabi Police will cancel black points in minor traffic violations that occurred and will occur before July 1.
The initiative does not include cancellation of black points for major traffic offences such as reckless driving, beating the red light, over speeding, and driving under the influence of alocohol or drugs.
Brigadier Ali Khalfan Al Dhaheri, director-general of central operations at Abu Dhabi Police, said the initiative could also urge traffic violators to practice proper traffic behavior and respect the laws.
“The initiative to cancel black points will benefit all drivers that have committed minor traffic offences in Abu Dhabi,” the Khaleej Times quoted Al Dhaheri as saying.
The UAE is also set to roll out a new traffic system on July 1 in a push to improve road safety in the country.
