Dubai doctors save woman’s last kidney

Doctors from Dubai were able to save the last kidney of a Pakistani woman, fortunately saving her life after a minimal invasive surgery.

The 27-year old woman almost lost her right and only remaining kidney as it expanded three times its original size.

The woman, whose condition was considered rare, had to come specifically to the Latifa hospital at Dubai to receive special treatment.

According to Professor Arnaud Wattiez, Gynaecology Consultant at Latifa Hospital, the swelling as caused by hydronephrosis, or the overfilling of urine in the ureter and the renal pelvis or the connection of the ureter to the kidney.

He also said what happened to the woman was also associated with menstruation.

“We then had to conduct a complicated surgery that took more than five hours to reimplant the ureter in the bladder, which a minimally invasive procedure conducted by endoscopy,” Wattiez said in a report.

After the success of the surgery, the woman was discharged and went back to her family in Pakistan.
