A wedding in India has turned into a grim catastrophe after the groom—who had a high fever during the event—died and over 100 guests got infected with coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
In a report by Indian Express, the groom—who died on June 17 and was cremated without being tested for the disease—was said to have been feeling sick and even asked for the wedding to be postponed. His family and the bride’s, however, forced him to go through with the wedding, citing financial losses if it gets cancelled. They had him take painkillers and paracetamol instead, based on local reports.

“Even though he was feeling unwell by June 14 and wanted the wedding deferred, family heads from both sides advised against it, citing huge financial losses if the arrangements had to be [canceled],” the groom’s relative was quoted as saying.
His condition then worsened, and he passed away on the way to the hospital. Afterwards, the report added that 15 of his family members were infected. Local health authorities then took samples from other attendees, and found out that a total of 113 of them tested positive for the disease—most of which are asymptomatic. The bride, however, was not among those infected.
The wedding is now considered one of the biggest COVID-19 chains of infections in the country.
