16 killed in mass shooting in Canada, the worst in its history

A man disguised as a policeman killed at least 16 people in Canada, in what is believed to be the worst mass shooting in the history of the country, BBC reported.
According to the authorities, the suspect randomly shot people in various locations in Nova Scotia. He was allegedly driving what looked like a police car during the 12-hour rampage—which ended with him being killed in a confrontation with the police.
The suspect has been identified as 51-year-old Gabriel Wortman. He was seen dressed in a police uniform, even though he is not employed in the force.

Wortman was initially driving a vehicle that looked like a police car, but then later changed to a smaller Chevrolet SUV during the car chase.
Authorities are still establishing the final death toll of the mass shooting, warning that there may be more victims.
Among those who were killed include Royal Canadian Mounted Police Constable (RCMP) Heidi Stevenson, who had been in the force for over two decades. She is survived by her two kids and her husband.
“Heidi answered the call of duty and lost her life while protecting those she served,” Nova Scotia RCMP Commanding Officer, Assistant Commissioner Lee Bergerman said in a Facebook post.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that the mass shooting is perhaps one of the most senseless acts of violence in our province’s history, stating that what happened is indeed “a terrible situation.”
