Nine Filipino nurses who are working as medical frontliners in Germany contracted coronavirus disease (COVID-19), according to the Philippine Ambassador to Berlin Maria Theresa Dizon-De Vega.
During the televised press briefing on Monday, Dizon-De Vega disclosed that the nurses are exhibiting mild symptoms and undergoing treatment
She also added that two of the nurses are asymptomatic and waiting for another round of testing.
“We are monitoring nine Filipino nurses, but their symptoms have all been mild. We check on them every day,” she said.
“Araw-araw po kausap po namin sila, may wellness check po kami araw-araw sa kanila. Hopefully po lahat po sila maka-recover sa madaliang panahon,” she added.
Meanwhile, the ambassador praised Germany’s response COVID-19 pandemic as the European country managed to keep its mortality rate low in contrast to its neighbors.
For that reason, Dizon-De Vega said most Filipinos in the Germany opted to stay amid the threat of coromavirus pandemic.
“Sa ngayon wala pa hong lumalapit sa amin na gusting bumalik ng Pilipinas dahil ang Germany naman po ang isa may pinakamababang mortality rate sa buong mundo,” she explained.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs tally on Sunday, Europe registered 220 overseas Filipinos infected with COVID-19, including 32 deaths and 17 recoveries.
