PNP won’t follow Duterte’s shoot to kill order

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it will not obey President Rodrigo Duterte’s order to shoot dead individuals who would bring chaos amid the COVID-19 crisis, PNP chief Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa said Thursday.
“Of course not, probably the President just overemphasized on implementing the law in this time of crisis. Of course not,” Gamboa told ABS-CBN News.
“We see the strong message and I think all the PNP personnel understood it,” he added.
Duterte made the remarks during a televised address late Wednesday night, adding that he would not hesitate to have leftists arrested or killed for staging riots and chaos amid the prevailing public health emergency and enhanced community quarantine.
“My orders are sa pulis at military, pati mga barangay. Na kapag may gulo, okasyon na lumaban at buhay ninyo ay nalagay sa alanganin, shoot them dead,” Duterte said.
This comes after some residents of Sitio San Roque in Quezon City protested along EDSA asking relief aid from the local government.
Gamboa said they already filed charges against the protestors arrested for violating quarantine rules.
