The Philippine government is considering reducing travel taxes in local airports as the local airline industry takes a hit from coronavirus epidemic.
Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) Executive Director Carmelo Arcilla said Monday that airlines have asked the government to reduce or if not, cancel travel levies and landing fees.

“Nag-present ang local airlines ng kanilang kahilingan sa gobyerno dahil nga sa dinaranas nila,” he said.
Local carriers are seeing a downtrend in bookings following the travel ban to China, reported GMA News.
“Overall, they’re taking a hit, specifically doon sa mga territories na China, Hong Kong, Macau. Malaki ang hit sa ating mga local airlines,” Arcilla explained.

However, Arcilla pointed out that the Transportation Department to decide on the matter as it has a financial aspect that concerns other agencies including Tourism infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA).
