First antiviral drug approved to fight COVID-19

Health authorities in China have proven an antiviral drug to be effective in treating the novel coronavirus.
Favilavir or Fapilavir has been approved for marketing by the Taizhou government in Zhejiang province in its announcement last Sunday.

The National Medical Products Administration approved the marketing of what is now coined as ‘the first anti-novel coronavirus drug’ since the COVID-19 outbreak began, as per a report from the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
Zhejiang Hisun Pharmaceutical Company developed the drug.

The government stated, on its official WeChat account, that Favilavir is expected to play an important role in preventing and treating the epidemic.
Favilavir is one of the three drugs that have shown significant potency in treating COVID-19 during the clinical trials, according to reports from the Ministry of Science and Technology in China.
China began production of the antivirus last Sunday.
