Social media dispute turns deadly in Sharjah

Authorities in Sharjah arrested several suspects within four hours after a dispute that began on social media escalated into a deadly stabbing outside a shopping center, leaving one man dead and another injured.

According to Sharjah Police, all Asian nationals suspects were taken into custody by the Criminal Investigation Department following the violent altercation, which stemmed from an online argument that later turned into a face-to-face confrontation.

Police said the Operations Room received a report of a fight involving several individuals outside a shopping center in Sharjah City. Two people sustained stab wounds during the incident after a sharp weapon was allegedly used.

Police patrols and specialized teams immediately responded to the scene, while National Ambulance personnel rushed the victims to a hospital for treatment. One of the victims later succumbed to his injuries, while the other survived and received medical care.

Preliminary investigations found that the conflict originated on a social media platform before escalating into a direct confrontation involving multiple individuals. During the altercation, one of the suspects allegedly used a bladed weapon, resulting in fatal and non-fatal injuries.

Sharjah Police said intensive search and investigation operations were launched immediately after the incident. Authorities identified and arrested all suspects within four hours and initiated the necessary legal proceedings against them.

The police force urged the public to resolve disputes through legal channels and warned against responding to online disagreements with violence or physical confrontation.

Authorities also stressed that the law would be enforced firmly against anyone who threatens public security or endangers the safety of others.

Sharjah Police further called on residents to use digital platforms responsibly and report content that incites violence or disrupts public order, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in maintaining public safety.
