The United Arab Emirates will begin enforcing its annual midday work ban on June 15, prohibiting outdoor work under direct sunlight and in open-air areas between 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. until September 15.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation said the measure is intended to protect workers from heat-related injuries during the peak summer season and forms part of the country’s efforts to promote a safe working environment.
Now in its 22nd consecutive year, the policy requires employers to provide shaded rest areas, cooling equipment, drinking water, and hydration supplies for workers during the ban period.
The ministry said certain activities may be exempt when work cannot be interrupted for technical reasons. These include asphalt paving, concrete pouring, emergency repairs to essential services, and projects requiring special government permits due to their impact on public life and movement.
Companies found violating the ban face fines of Dh5,000 for each worker involved, with penalties capped at Dh50,000 for multiple violations.
Last year, authorities reported a 99% compliance rate among companies during the implementation of the heat protection campaign. The initiative also provided 10,000 air-conditioned rest stations for delivery riders across the UAE.
