Supporters of Sen. Risa Hontiveros launched the “Risa Na!” movement on Friday to build support for a possible presidential bid by the lawmaker in the 2028 elections.
The movement was formally launched by Akbayan and allied organizations during an event at University of the Philippines Diliman.
The launch comes weeks after Hontiveros said she was seriously considering seeking a higher elective position in 2028.
Hontiveros’ term in the Senate is set to end in 2028.
Opposition groups are expected to announce their preferred presidential candidate for the 2028 elections either later this year or in early 2027.
The “Risa Na!” movement is among the earliest organized efforts publicly advocating for Hontiveros to seek the country’s highest elected office.
