Taiwan on Monday has reported its first case of the new strain of coronavirus.
The patient is identified as a 50-year-old woman from Wuhan who manifested symptoms of fever, cough and sore throat when she returned to Taiwan.
She was rushed to hospital after reporting her condition to quarantine officials at Taoyuan airport, Taiwan’s Center for Disease Control (CDC) reported.
The woman told authorities she didn’t have direct contact with the seafood market where the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) emerged.
CDC is currently monitoring the 46 passengers and cabin crew of the flight she rode.
The incident prompted Taiwan to raise its alert to the highest level and issue a travel advisory against traveling to Chinese central city of Wuhan, AFP reported.
China confirmed Monday that the new strain of coronavirus can spread through human-to-human transmission.
Meanwhile, Taiwan’s CDC allayed concerns of public and said they have informed the World Health Organization and Chinese counterparts.
“We ask the public not to panic as the individual was taken to hospital directly from the airport and did not step into the community,” it said in a statement.
