The World Health Organization (WHO) verified that new type of corona virus which originated from China has reached Thailand.
Thai and WHO officials reported on Monday their first case of SARS-like disease, a Chinese traveler, who originated from the central city of Wuhan in China.
The traveler had been hospitalized and was diagnosed with mild pneumonia.
“Laboratory testing subsequently confirmed that the novel coronavirus was the cause,” WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic told AFP.
Thai authorities has ordered a strict monitoring of airports as they expect thousands of Chinese tourist will arrive for the Lunar New Year.
The mysterious strain of SARS was discovered in a seafood market in Wuhan where 41 people where quarantined and at least one person died.
The agency said they had set guidelines on detecting and treating people diagnosed with the disease but they haven’t release any specific measure for travelers or restrictions on trade with China.
