This man couldn’t be luckier. A Bangladeshi taxi driver in Dubai won Dhs 40,000 after purchasing a gift for his fiancée that cost Dhs1,600.
The expat, Ghulam Mustafa was one of the winners of Dubai Gold and Jewellry Group’s (DGJG) raffle draw for the 25th edition of Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF).
The 26-year-old shared that the gift — gold coins worth Dhs 1,600 which include a ring and a chain — were the largest purchase he had ever made.
“I have never thought about buying gold in my life, but I wanted to give something special to my fiancée at our wedding. When I went to one of the jewelry shops at a mall, I was told that with every jewelry purchase of Dh500, I would be entitled to one raffle coupon that could win me a number of gold coins in raffle draws,” Khaleej Times quoted Mustafa as saying.
He was informed after a few days through a call from a DGJG staff that he was one among lucky winners of “Dubai City of Gold” coins that weigh eight grams each.
As a cabbie who makes Dhs3,000 a month, he shared that inadequate career opportunities made him decide to move to UAE.
“I can’t believe my luck. My bride-to-be is already lucky for me. I am planning to use the gold coins to buy some special gifts for my bride-to-be and my family members. The rest of the gold coins will be used for my wedding,” he said. (KB)
