Typhoon Ursula’s tornado-like winds hit the town of Calapan in Oriental Mindoro on Christmas Day at the height of Typhoon Ursula, Wednesday.
In a video uploaded by Facebook user Arnel Bunyi, he said that it was his first time to see and experience an actual ‘buhawi’ or tornado.
“Nakakakilabot pala ang buhawi, hindi ko inaasahan na makakakita ako ng buhawi in person and for the first time,” Bunyi said in a post.
He also shared photos showing the tornado’s devastation in the area.
“Talagang parang buhawi iyong dumaan sa mga bayan na ito,” Governor Eduardo Gadiano told ABS-CBN News.
The damage left by Ursula’s tornado-like winds also hamper rescue and relief efforts to residents.
“Hindi na kami makalusot dahil puro tumba iyong mga puno kaya ang inaasahan lang namin doon, iyong barangay council na ang gumalaw,” the governor added.
