A lawmaker is pushing for additional benefits for public school teachers anew the wage hike under the proposed Salary Standardization Law (SSL) V.
Quezon City Representative Alfred Vargas told GMA News that the proposed wage increase for teachers under SSL V are meager in contrast to their expenses.
Under the proposed SSL V, Teacher I positions will only receive an increase of 30%, while Teacher II and III’s wages will receive a raise equivalent to 27.1% and 24.1% respectively. These increases will be implemented in four tranches beginning 2020 until 2023.
Vargas also added the measure to give more benefits to the teaching force is being deliberated by House committees.
“Meron tayong prinopose na teaching allowance per year na itaas to P5,000. Tapos meron din tayong gustong panukala na housing naman for teachers,” he said.
“Itong mga ito kapag naipasa natin, maiibsan yung paghihirap ng teachers natin.”
