The Fair Play Athlete was awarded to surfer Roger Casugay during the closing ceremony of the 30th SEA Games in New Clark City.
The recently concluded biennial event recognized his heroic deed during the men’s long board surfing in La union on December 6.
He was on the verge of winning gold medal when he saved his Indonesian rival, Arip Nurhidayat.
Casugay’s heroism was praised and immediately won the hearts of the netizens.
He was also esteemed by Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo on Monday for his heroic act.
Earlier, Casugay met president Rodrigo Duterte received the Order of Lapu-Lapu award from President Duterte.
