Employer to pay heavy fine for abusing labour law

A court in Abu Dhabi ordered a local company owner to pay a fine of Dh50,000 for each of his workers after he was found guilty of shutting his firm without settling his employees’ financial dues, newspapers reported on Wednesday.

A court of appeals issued the same verdict against the unnamed employer, prompting him to appeal again with the higher Court of Cassation, which rejected his appeal and upheld that sentence.

The owner was accused of closing down his business but failed to settle the dues to his workers, leaving them to illegally work for other employers.

“The court fined his company Dh50,000 and ordered him to pay a fine of Dh50,000 per each worker,” Emarat Al Youm daily said without mentioning how many workers the company had employed.
