The Department of Foreign Affairs said no Filipinos were hurt in Iran after a magnitude 5.9 earthquake hit the country yesterday..
“So far, there is no report of Filipinos among those affected by the deadly earthquake,” the DFA said in a statement.
The DFA added that it is now coordinating with the Filipino community to monitor the situation of at least 32 Filipinos living in the affected city.
Reports say that at least 6 people and more than 300 were injured after the strong quake.
A magnitude 5.9 struck the area of Ardabil in East Azerbaijan province at around 2 in the morning. More than 60 aftershocks were reported.
The DFA added that it will monitor the aftermath of the quake and is now coordinating with the Philippine Embassy in Tehran.
“The DFA stands ready to provide assistance to any affected kababayan,” the statement added
