Meanwhile, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte has suspended classes on Tuesday following the earthquake that also jolted the city.

In her announcement, Mayor Duterte said the suspension covers all students in both public and private schools from kindergarten to post-graduate studies.

“The 6.8 magnitude earthquake, which happened at 9:13 this morning , may have caused structural and electrical damage to buildings and houses. All school owners, teachers, and other school personnel are hereby instructed to subject school structures to a safety inspection with a qualified engineer immediately,” she added.

Mayor Duterte instructed the engineers to “immediately condemn the area” and not allow students to use the same if they find building defects that are dangerous and need repair.

Suspension of classes on Wednesday, Oct. 30 will be on a case to case basis and will depend on the individual schools’ announcement.
