First solar-powered water plant in Kenya turns sea water to drinking water

A non-government organization named the GivePower has created a solution to the world’s water supply issues by constructing solar water plants.

The group pilot-tested the initiative in the Kenyan town of Kiunga.

The solar plant in Kiunga converts Indian ocean’s water to drinking water. The project has been operating since last year.

The NGO said this is cheaper than desalination plants. Powered by Tesla batteries and solar pumps, the plant can produce 50 kilowatts of energy.

The water plant can serve 35,000 people a day.

GivePower plans to bring the technology to Haiti and Colombia which is experiencing water scarcity.
