The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi has successfully repatriated 106 distressed overseas Filipino workers with the help of the local government offices in the UAE as well as various government agencies in the Philippines.
As of press time, more than 5,000 Filipinos have been sent home through the joint efforts of the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Philippine Consulate at Dubai and the Northern Emirates in their unified efforts to assist fellow Filipinos to head back home to be with their families once again.
Officials from the Philippine Embassy and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) continue to remind Filipinos on their warning against the modus operandi of human trafficking: Where many Filipinos leave the country using visit visa with the promise that they will be issued work visas, only to be maltreated and abused by their employers who worked with illegal recruiters.
Reports from the DFA state that the repatriation program has already costed the Philippine government around Php 135.34 million.
In 2018, the repatriation program costed a total of Php 175.21 million for the repatriation of 9,375 OFWs from the UAE consisting of 5,842 OFWs from Dubai and 3,533 from Abu Dhabi.
