Man gets seven years for transporting drugs

For attempting to smuggle illegal drugs through Dubai, a man from Pakistan will be spending seven years in jail.

The 34-year-old man was convicted by a Dubai Criminal Court for possessing drugs to sell. Aside from the seven-year imprisonment, the man was also fined Dh50,000 and will be deported after serving his prison term, the National reported.

The man was caught trying to smuggle drugs through Dubai, from Oman to Saudi Arabia.

It was last February 2 when UAE’s federal anti-narcotics department was tipped off about an attempt to smuggle drugs through Dubai.

The attempt was discovered after police from Dubai and Oman obtained a voice recording sent from a man in Pakistan to the accused.

It was found in the voice recording that the two men planned to smuggle four kilograms of crystal meth.

The drugs were supposed to be delivered at the China mall in Dubai.

After a three-week planning, an undercover officer met the accused that led to his arrest.

One kilogram of crystal meth sent to authorities in Saudi Arabia was used to arrest an accomplice in the Kingdom.
