If you’re heading out to Gigantes Island to visit its famous Tangke Saltwater Lagoon, you might as well cancel those plans.
The Mayor of Carles Town in Iloilo Seigfredo Betita announced the temporary closure that will run from September 1 to September 30.
In a report from Sunstar Iloilo, Betita said the closure was based on Executive Order No. 45, series of 2018 – the solid waste segregation ordinance for the area.
The move is also aimed at protecting and preserving the natural beauty of the place as well as to assist is in its natural recovery.
The temporary closure, according to the report, is also a way of safeguarding tourists who always visit the area during southwest monsoon months.
Last August, there reportedly 178 tourists who got stranded for a week in Gigantes Island after there were no trips allowed following the issuance of a gale waning in Western Visayas seaboard.
The lagoon is one of the several tourist attractions in Gigantes Island.
