An organization comprised of at least 500 recruitment agencies said they are supporting the creation of the proposed Department of Overseas Filipino Workers.
The bill seeks to create a sole department to address the concerns of at least two million Filipino migrant workers.
In a statement, the Alliance of Bonafide Recruiters for OFW Advancement (ABROAd) said they support the government’s plan to create an OFW department.
“All efforts of the government to improve and streamline the services and processes involved in the deployment of OFWs,” the group said.
The group added that they are willing to sit down with stakeholders and other government agencies to ensure that the interest of OFWs.
Several agencies have expressed their concerns on the proposal because the President Rodrigo Duterte mentioned that he wanted to end recruitment by private companies to prevent abuse of OFWs.
The House of Representatives said they are hoping to pass the bill next month along with President Rodrigo Duterte’s priority bills.
