Abu Dhabi residents, particularly those who own private vehicles, were alarmed yesterday as messages spread on social media about the upcoming implementation of Salik in the capital.
The message stated that the toll gates located at Saadiyat Island, Al Maqta Bridge, Sheikh Zayed Bridge, and the Mussafah Bridge will begin to operate this coming October 15.
Fees stated in the message are Dh 4 during peak hours and Dh 3 during non-peak hours and Fridays.
Peak hours are from Saturday to Thursday, from 7:00 am to 9:00 am and from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
The message also stated that there’s an initial registration of Dh 100 which is inclusive of Dh 50 credit.

Salik Fines
Further, the message also advised residents about the fines for motorists who pass without the gate tag.
First day: Dh 100
Second day: Dh 200
Third day: Dh 400
Following days: Dh 400 up to a maximum fine of Dh 10000
Those who pass with the gate tag without balance will be fined Dh 50 per day.
Awaiting Confirmation
As of press time, Abu Dhabi’s Department of Transport have yet to issue any statements about the said message. However, it can be recalled that earlier this year in February 2018, the aforementioned government agency has already begun their preparations to implement Law No.17 of 2017 on traffic tariffs as issued by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Articles 2 and 3 of Law No. 17 of 2017 specifies that the Department of Transport will be responsible for the amount to be paid, timings, as well as the particular locations for the implementation of the road toll which will all be for approval of the General Secretariat of the Executive Council.
