An Indian man in Dubai who had been jobless for six months recently received 10 job offers after replying to a tweet of an Indian minister.
Rajesh P, 32, had been supported by his friends after his employment at a supermarket in Jumeirah. His wife and daughter are in Kerala.
“I have a bank loan outstanding to the tune of 7 lakhs (Indian rupees, about Dh37,300). I have not been able to pay my equated monthly installments (EMI) for the last eight months. So I need to go home and talk to the bank. I need to give a power of attorney to my wife so she can take care of the house there,” Rajesh was quoted in a Gulf News report as saying.
Out of desperation because of his futile job hunt, Rajesh replied to a tweet and asked for help from Vellamvelly Muraleedharan, Minister of State for External Affairs of India.
Muraleedharan’s tweet on June 9 was about the repatriation of the remains of an Indian from Saudi Arabia.
Rajesh replied, saying: “Sir I am [in] Dubai my company closed. 6 [months] no salary for [a month I have] no electricity in [my] room. I want to go India please help me 0526292060.”
Muraleedharan responded by tagging Rajesh’s tweet and directed the Indian consulate and the embassy to help him find a job.
On June 29, Rajesh woke up with 10 job offers from companies in the UAE.
He is still choosing what offer to take.
