With the approval of the plan for the expansion of the rail system, commuters can soon gain access to some strategic ports and industrial areas from Abu Dhabi to Dubai and other emirates.
The Dh4.4 billion Stage 2 plan was approved on Tuesday by H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and Chairman of Etihad Rail.
This plan will cover a 605-kilometer network from Ghuweifat to the Port of Fujairah on the eastern coast.
The funding for this will also cover the design and construction of rail infrastructure, which includes earthworks, bridges, tunnels, animal-crossings, and track laying.
This will also connect Package B with Package A and Package C with Package B.
Package B and C will connect Khalifa Port, Khalifa Industrial City (Kizad) and Jebel Ali Port.
The chairman of Etihad Rail emphasized the significance of this project as key for the country’s “economic and social objectives”.
