Another Dubai first: Free sim card for visitors

DUBAI: The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA-Dubai), in cooperation with (EITC) has launched the pilot phase of “Connect with Happiness” project, which will allow travellers with transit visa, visit visa, visa on arrival and GCC citizens arriving at Dubai International Airport to take advantage of complimentary du Tourist SIM cards, which will offer visitors an enriched Dubai experience.

This comes during a press conference held by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs at Dubai International Airport to announce the launch of the pilot phase of “Connect with Happiness”

The conference speakers included HE Major General Mohammed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFA Dubai, HE Dr Aisha Bint Butti Bin Bishr, Director General of Smart Dubai Office and Fahad Al Hassawi, Deputy CEO of Telco Services, EIT.

In the presence of HE Major General Obaid bin Suroor, Deputy of the Director General of GDRFA Dubai, Brigadier Talal Al Shanqeti, the Assistant Director General of Ports Affairs, Brigadier Hussein Ibrahim, the Assistant Director General of Corporate Support Sector and Anita Mehra, Vice president, marketing and corporate communication at Dubai Airport and number of officials from both parties.

HE Major General Mohammed Al Marri Director General of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai said, “This project “Connect with Happiness” aims to contribute to achieve Dubai Happiness Agenda, which is being implemented by Smart Dubai Office.”

“We have targeted visitors of Dubai in cooperation with du, in a move to ensure they enjoy a safe, happy and fulfilled stay. Travellers arriving at Terminals 1, 2 and 3, can access du’s exceptional connectivity and telco experience as soon as they land.” Al Marri said.

The director general said Dubai is witnessing an increasing growth in the number of visitors from all over the world.

He added, “Through our association with du, we are pleased to be enabling visitors to Dubai to enjoy a unique service on arrival.”

HE Dr. Aisha Bint Butti Bin Bishr, Director General of Smart Dubai Office, for her part, said, “Smart Dubai Office in collaboration with its strategic partners, is working to achieve Dubai Happiness Agenda, which was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai in 2016, which focuses on people happiness, whether visitor, resident or citizen. People’s happiness in Dubai is what we are working for.”

“As part of Smart Dubai latest initiatives to make visitors happy, we are pleased to add this project to enhance people’s happiness and achieve Dubai Happiness Agenda goals” Bin Bishr said.

She added, “Connect with Happiness” project which was launched by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in cooperation with du, aimed to provide free SIM card for Dubai visitors, and enabling them to capture their moments of happiness in Dubai as they toured the city and shared with beloved ones from their family and friends around the world.

Hassawi said the sim cards is loaded with 20mb data and has three flexi minutes.

Following this, tourists can then opt to add more calling minutes or data via three recharge options: a. Pay AED 25 and get 150 MB data – 10 flexible minutes, three-day validity; b. Pay AED 55 and get 500 MB data – 20 flexible minutes, seven-day validity; or c. Pay AED 110 and get 2 GB data – 40 flexible minutes and 14-day validity.

To activate the complimentary SIM, all travellers need to do is insert the SIM card, dial *122# and follow the instructions thereafter to get connected through du’s outstanding service. Promoters from du will also be present near immigration desks at Dubai International Airport to help visitors unlock the value of du’s Tourist SIM offer.
