Authorities rescued at least seven tourists, mostly European, from possible harm after their boat capsized off the coast of Ras Al Khaimah on Friday.
Brigadier General Abdullah Khamis Al Hadidi, acting commander of the RAK Police, said that the Second Squadron of the Coast Guard and the National Ambulance immediately responded to a distress call at around 7:30 in the evening.
Al Hadidi said that the boat was about to sink when the rescuers arrived at the scene. Large waves were seen as the main culprit, he added.
Medical personnel were able to provide first aid to the tourists, who sustained only minor scratches.
Following the incident, Al Hadidi reminded tourists and seafarers to plan their itinerary based on the weather conditions to avoid similar incidents, as well as coordinating with proper maritime authorities for immediate response.
