Two Jolo bombing suspects caught on CCTV surrender to clear name

Two of the three men who were earlier dubbed as the suspects in the bombing of a cathedral in Jolo, Sulu surrendered to authorities to clear their names.

The two men surrendered to the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 30.

Chief Supt. Amador Corpuz, director of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, said that the men denied being a part of the bombing of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Mount Carmel saying that they were only in the area to buy medicine.

A CCTV footage of the twin bombing that hit a Catholic cathedral in Jolo, Sulu that killed 25 people and injured 111 others has been released by authorities.

In the said video, three men are seen fleeing the scene only a few seconds before one of the bombs exploded.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Gerry Besana, spokesperson for the military’s Western Mindanao Command, the three men caught in the footage were in the act of detonating a bomb.

In an interview with Dobol B sa News TV, Philippine National Police chief Director General Oscar Albayalde said that one of the men seen in the video who was wearing a blue-green jacket was identified as Alyas Kamah, who is a member of Ajang-Ajang, a group affiliated with the Abu Sayyaf.
