A Dubai court reduced the sentence for the man who poured acid over his ex-wife from 15 years to 10 years in prison.
The Emirati man will now be serving 10 years in prison and pay pay Dh21,000 in compensation and Dh1,000 in legal fees after the appeal court approved his request for the sentence to be reduced, reported The National.
In 2015, the Emirati man entered the office of his ex-wife and locked the door before pouring sulfuric acid over the woman’s head.
The security guard was able to enter the office eventually and found the woman suffering from second and third degree burns on her head, neck, and legs.
Authorities were immediately deployed to the scene and arrested the Emirati who reportedly said “I wish I had killed her and got it over with.”
In a court hearing in 2017, the Emirati denied intentionally planning to kill the woman but mental tests conducted showed that the man was fully aware of what he did and did not suffer any mental issues at the time of the crime.
