OFW groups support construction of ‘world’s biggest airport’ in Bulacan

Several overseas Filipino worker (OFW) groups are calling for the immediate construction of the Bulacan airport which is dubbed as the “biggest airport in the world”.

According to the groups, the airport would be helpful for the thousands of OFWs who leave the country on a daily basis and in improving the general infrastructure of the country, reported Philstar.

With the opening of the airport, jobs are also expected to be opened which would allow OFWs to work here instead to be with their families.

“Around 4,000 to 5,000 OFWs leave the country daily. They deserve an international airport that is efficient, comfortable and can be just as accessible and conveniently situated as NAIA,” the groups said in a letter of support sent to the government.

“The construction of this new airport over a span of five to six years will create new jobs and businesses that would increase the productivity of our workers and entice our OFWs to reintegrate home,” they added.

Among the groups that signed the letter include:

Blas F. Ople Policy Center
Integrated Seafarers of the Philippines
OFW Watch
OFW Chamber of Commerce
OFW Council of Leaders-KSA
Kabalikat ng Migranteng Pilipino
Kapisanan ng mga Kamag-anak ng Migranteng Manggagawang Pilipino Inc.
LBS Recruitment Solutions Corp.
Philippine Association of Migrant Workers & Advocates
Kaibigan ng OCWs
OFW Committee
Zonta Club of Quezon City
United Filipino Seafarers
Ang Kaagapay ng Bawat OFW
Filipino Malaysian Cultural Sports and Workforce Training Program
Bulacan Federation of OFW Family Circle Officers

The construction of the international airport in Bulacan, which is dubbed as the ‘biggest airport in the world’, is set to begin in 2019, project proponent San Miguel Corporation (SMC) announced.

In a statement, SMC president Ramon S. Ang said that the construction of the airport is eyed to begin next year and would be finished in six years.

“While we’re still going through a long process, hopefully, in 2019, we can hit the ground running on actual construction,” Ang said.
