1,600 jobs await Filipinos in Croatia, Slovakia

European countries like Croatia and Slovakia are willing to hire up to 1,600 Filipino workers to fill their labor gaps in various sectors.

According to Elsa Villa, president of the Philippine Association of Service Exporters, Inc. (PASEI), there is a shortage in the number of workers from these countries because of its small population, reported ABS-CBN News.

Croatia and Slovakia’s economy both rely on tourism sector thus the need for more workers in the hospitality industry.

PASEI said that Croatia is in need of 1,000 workers while Slovakia is in need of 600 workers with starting pay ranging from $800 (Php41,908) to $1,000 (Php52,385).

Workers are also given overtime pay if they exceed work hours.

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) said that while there is no existing bilateral labor agreement between the Philippines and the European countries, deployment of OFWs are allowed as long as they undergo legal processes.

Aspiring applicants are urged to check job orders with the POEA to avoid falling victims to illegal recruiters, among others.
