A couple in Paco, Manila was arrested by authorities after attempting to illegally deploy multiple Filipino jobseekers to work as domestic helpers in Dubai and other Middle East countries.
The accused, identified as Eladio Cabrera and Melissa Cadorna, were arrested following the complaints of three victims who claimed that the couple promised them jobs to Dubai, reported ABS-CBN News.
The victims claimed that they paid an initial payment of Php20,000 for the affidavit of sponsorship from the office of consulate in Dubai. Aside from this, the victims were also allegedly asked to pay Php30,000 for their processing fee.
The victims were supposed to be deployed in October before they discovered that the recruiters are not authorized by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).
Criminal Investigation and Detection Group – Anti Transnational Crime Unit (CIDG-ATCU), Supt. Roque Merdegia Jr., said that the suspects falsify the documents of their victims and fly them to another country in the Middle East before they are transported to Dubai to work as domestic helpers.
It is believed that once the victims arrive in Dubai, they will be given to another recruitment agency.
The couple is accused of illegal recruitment, swindling, and falsification of public document.
