Man checks into hotel using dead person’s Emirates ID

A 27-year-old man stands trial in the UAE for using a dead man’s Emirates ID to check into a hotel room for free, heard a court on Thursday, October 25.

An Indian concierge was reported to have the Emirati man and his friend checked in at a room in the hotel at Al Qusais in September, reported Gulf News.

After staying for two days in the hotel, the concierge called up the room to check if the Emirati resident wanted to extend their stay but no one responded.

The concierge then tried to call up his number, but the hotel staff was informed that the person he was trying to contact had died three years ago.

Primary interrogations helped in the arrest of the 27-year-old Emirati who forged the dead man’s signature while on the hotel’s check-in papers. His accomplice, however, still remained at large.

When the suspect showed up before the Dubai Court of First Instance, he pleaded not guilty.

The judgment will be handed out on November 22.
