Three more public holidays expected in UAE this year

Planning for a weekend getaway with family or friends before year-end? Or just craving for another day outside work? No problem as residents can still expect three more public holidays before the year ends.

According to the list of public holidays released by the UAE government for 2018, there are still three more public holidays to come before the Gulf state welcomes 2019, all of which are likely to be declared as holidays for workers in both public and private sectors.

Prophet Mohammed’s Birthday

After the declaration of September 13 as a holiday in celebration of the Hijri New Year, the next holiday is Prophet Mohammed’s Birthday which will be on November 19, 2018, Monday. This, however, still depends on moon sightings.

Martyr’s Day

Earlier, President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, proclaimed November 30, Friday, as Martyr’s Day or Commemoration Day to be held to remember the heroic deeds of the nation’s martyrs. Since the holiday falls on a Friday, no additional day may be given to workers in the private sector.

UAE National Day

Before year-end, UAE will also celebrate the UAE National Day to commemorate the founding of the union of the United Arab Emirates in 1971. This will be celebrated on December 2, Sunday, and December 3, Monday. If both days will be declared as holidays, workers will be able to enjoy a four-day long weekend before the year ends.

“Federal ministries, public departments and institutions are closed during the public holidays listed below,” the announcement read.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Workers are still advised to wait for official announcements from the government for the declaration of holidays.
