Ompong leaves 8 provinces without power

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) announced that eight provinces in Luzon were affected by the loss of electricity during the landfall of typhoon Ompong.

The power loss was due to the tripping of numerous transmission lines as Ompong entered the country. However as of writing, the power has been restored to 16 transmission lines, according to NGCP vice president for operations and maintenance Gildo Listano.

The affected areas are Aurora, Cagaya, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Kalinga Apayao, Mountain Province and Nueva Vizcaya. Meanwhile, La Union, Benguet, Isabela, Pangasinan, and Zambales, all of which have to stretch the reduced electricity supply.

For their part, Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), assured that as soon as the winds and floods subside, they will send personnel to repair damaged posts, reported PhilStar.

Around 423,000 customers experienced power interruptions in Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal, and certain areas in Batangas, Laguna, Pampanga and Quezon.
