Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano tagged on Tuesday, August 28, Magdalo Party-list Representative Gary Alejano as a “purveyor of fake news”.
This was after Alejano made claims that President Rodrigo Duterte will fly abroad to seek medical treatments for his alleged failing health.
Cayetano was quick to debunk Alejano’s claims saying that Duterte’s state visit to the Middle Eastern will be heavily documented and that it will be reported if the president will be rushed to the hospital during his visit.
“Unang-una, in a state visit, bawat galaw mo tinitingnan eh. So, whether a doctor goes to him or he goes to a hospital, hindi mo masisikreto iyon,” Inquirer.net quoted Cayetano as saying.
The Foreign Affairs secretary even added that he is not sure if “spreading fake news” is part of Alejano’s efforts to becoming a senator, but his claims are just unlikely to happen.
“Siguro kung dito ka nawala, and then nag-speculate ka na baka nagpapagamot, baka may sakit, pwede mo pang sabihin na naniwala ka sa bubwit mo, may nag-inform sayo kahit mali.
“Pero yung magsabi sa iyong may state visit, with full entourage and a full schedule tapos sasabihin mong ano… plus the President has never kept things about his health. Kung may iniinda siya or may nararamdaman siya, sasabihin niya,” he said.
