No Filipino casualty in suicide bombing in Egypt, DFA says

The Department of Foreign Affairs said that no Filipino casualty was reported in Egypt following the foiled suicide bombing attempt near a petrochemical plant that employs almost a thousand Filipino construction workers.

In a statement, DFA said that the Philippine Embassy in Cairo is in coordination with the Filipino community in the area who reported that the plant was placed on lockdown immediately after the bombing.

Ambassador to Cairo Leslie Baja said the target of the attack appeared to be a Coptic church in Shoubra in Qalyubia Governorate about 100 kilometers from the Egyptian capital.

The suicide bomber was the only casualty of the attack.

The plant has also resumed its operations, however, stricter security measures have been employed. Despite this, DFA still advised Filipinos in the area to take caution.
