The Senate has set a date to discuss the resolution that urges the Supreme Court to review its decision to oust former Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno through a quo warranto petition.
The Senate committee on rules, chaired by Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri, has scheduled Senate Resolution No. 738, which expressed the “sense of the Senate of the Philippines to uphold the Constitution on the matter of removing a Chief Justice from office” for plenary debate.
“The rules committee meeting was short and sweet. Wala naman kaming pinagdebatehan kundi ilabas yung resolution sa plenaryo, pagdebatehan at kung anong agreed upon by the body will be adopted by the body,” Zubiri told reporters.
“We agreed to calendar the resolution for plenary debates,” he added.
Zubiri also clarified that Solicitor General Jose Calida’s recent visit to the office of some senators including Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, and Senator Panfilo Lacson will not affect the plenary debate.
Calida has filed the quo warranto petition against Sereno.
“Nothing secretive. We discussed only the issue on the SolGen bill,” Zubiri said regarding his meeting with Calida.
“He (Calida) never mentioned about the quo warranto,” he added.
