The family of the slain overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Joanna Demafelis called for security after receiving death threats on social media Saturday evening.
Demafelis’ eldest sibling Joejet Demafelis said that the threats implied that one of the family members would be next.
“Parang nagbabanta na may isusunod pa sa kapatid namin,” he said.
Joejet added that they tried checking on the profile of the threat sender, however, no information was gathered from the user’s profile.
Demafelis’ uncle Pablo Demafelis also said that five unidentified persons have been visiting the wake. The individuals were reportedly acting “strangely”.
Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Hans Leo Cacdac immediately informed Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) secretary Silvestre Bello III of the incident.
“Sabi po magdadagdag daw ng security,” Joejet said.
Bello warned the family to be extra careful since some individuals may intimidate the family to get money from the financial assistance extended by the government to the family.
Local police have been deployed to the wake Saturday midnight.
“Nag-compensate kami, nagdagdag kami ng additional personnel kasi nag text sila sa Office of the President ,” Tayaba said.
