A woman residing in the UAE resorted to selling her body to make some quick cash.
The Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance sentenced the Filipino-Egyptian woman (name withheld) to five years in prison after being found guilty of prostitution, reported Khaleej Times.
The woman, 24, was arrested in an apartment in Abu Dhabi after her friend, who also practiced prostitution, identified her to be involved in the illegal activity.
Official court documents state the woman’s father stopped giving financial support to their family after he and his Filipino wife separated due to cultural differences.
This separation prompted their eldest daughter, the defendant, to practice prostitution to help support the family.
Her mother, who currently works at a fastfood restaurant in Abu Dhabi, said she noticed that her daughter was wearing expensive clothes and jewelry. When she asked, her daughter told her that her posh accessories were all given by her friends.
She eventually left their home and stayed at an apartment with her friend, where they operated their prostitution business.
The two denied the accusations before the court, but were convicted based on the evidence presented by the prosecutors.
