Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the UAE could soon enjoy organic rice grown by farmers in the Philippines.
Ten tons of organic brown, red, and black rice produced in the town of M’lang, North Cotabato is expected to be available in Dubai supermarkets and restaurants soon, according to Dubai Entrepinoy Reintegration Program (ERP) Chairperson Sheryl Bacay.
“Sa susunod na tatlong buwan ang kanilang panibagong shipment nasa Dh18 (P251) kada isang kilo ang halaga ng organic rice malaking tulong ito para sa bansa maging sa mga magsasaka sa M’lang North Cotabato,” GMA News quoted Bacay as saying.
Members of the ERP, who are OFWs, were behind the production of the organic rice under BIO Dynamic Organic Rice.
Jessie Quintilla, managing partner of Entrepinoy, said 70 ERP partners are currently supporting some 120 hectares in M’lang dedicated in producing organic rice.
Philippine Consul General Raymund Cortes said the import of organic rice to Dubai is a huge promotion of the Philippines’ agricultural products in UAE.
