Phivolcs has warned residents of Ormoc City and Albuera town of possible aftershocks that could damage weak structures near the quake’s epicenter.
Yesterday, August 23, two women died after a magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck parts of Leyte.
Maria Contreras Colasito, 51, died after she fell and banged her head, while Rosita Baloro, 70 suffered a heart attack when the earthquake struck.

Around 56 houses in Brgy Altavista were damaged by the Intensity V quake.
“The quake’s epicenter was located just northeast of Albuera, Leyte, with a depth of focus at just 5 kilometers below ground,” the Phivolcs announced.
Intensity IV in Pastrana town; and Intensity III in Palo and Tacloban City, the agency added.
