UAE public holidays for the rest of 2017

After that long Eid Al Fitr holiday, you must be itching to jet off on another brief vacation or to relax at home.

As always, holiday dates are dependent on the moon sightings but here’s a list of all the public holidays you can look forward to for the rest of 2017.

August 23 – Hajj Season
This marks the start of the hajj, the 5-day annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, the holy city for Muslims.

August 31 – Arafat Day
Arafat Day marks the second day of pilgrimage rituals and occurs the day before the start of Eid Al Adha.

September 1 – Eid Al Adha
Also called as the “Feast of Sacrifice”, Eid Al Adha commemorates the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his only son to the will of Allah. The Eid Al Adha holiday is usually a 3-day holiday in the UAE.

September 22 – Hijri New Year’s Day
The Islamic New Year is on the first day of Muharram, the first month in the lunar Islamic calendar.

November 30 – Martyr’s Day and Prophet Mohammed’s Birthday
Also known as Commemoration Day, Martyr’s Day recognizes the sacrifices of Emirati martyrs in the UAE and abroad and is observed annually on November 30. Prophet Mohammed’s birthday is celebrated during the month of Rabi’ al-awwal, the third month in the Islamic calendar.

December 2 – UAE National Day
This day marks the union of the seven emirates of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujarah, Umm al-Quwain, and Ras Al Khaimah.
